Here at ITV I'm one of three drama commissioners, we commission new drama programmes for the channel and my job in particular is to spear head development of new projects, so what that means is I shepherd projects right from the start of the idea all the way through to production and then each project once it's shooting we divide up so we all take different kind of shows to sort of oversee while they're being made.

I've been in TV for about 19 years and my path to commissioning, I would say quite a classic one in that I started as a script reader, I became a script editor, I did 5 years of script editing, I was a producer, I made programmes for about 5 years and then I became an executive producer and then I became a commissioner, so my background is very much in making programmes and script based work. I feel really strongly that if you're going to do this job you have to know what it's like to make the programmes.

I shepherd projects from the start of the idea all the way through to production.

So within ITV I work for Day Break, I'm a senior producer on the features department and I oversee a department called 'The Guide', which are short films which run within the show twice a morning. And my role within that is, I kind of do everything from scripting to going out to film to coming back and actually edit the pieces together, so I kind of see it from start to finish.

So I did a journalism degree so I always knew media was where I wanted to work, but I always thought it was newspapers because I worked at local newspapers, local radio and I didn't really think much about television and then I did work experience as Grenada in Manchester and loved it and it was definitely somewhere then I knew I wanted to work so then I moved to London and started at GMTV and I've kind of just come from there really, I went from programme assistant to trainee to researcher to producer and now I'm a senior producer, so it's been brilliant, I've loved every minute of it.

I went from programme assistant to senior producer. I’ve loved every minute of it.

What I do at ITV is I provide, as commercial research manager, support for our commercial sales effort here and that means providing research support and analysis for the sales teams here in order for them to put the best case possible for developing revenues for ITV. Working at ITV is great because we have a company that not only has commercial interests, if you like, in terms of advertising, but it's also got studio interests - it's a dynamic company today, very forward looking and it has, shall I say the spirit of enterprise and it's a lot of talented and interesting people here, and it's constant variety and challenges and every day is different.

There are a lot of talented and interesting people here.
