Hello, how long have you been at ITV and what do you do?
I’ve been here for almost three years. I’m a Project Manager in the ITV Events team, which is part of Group Marketing. Prior to joining ITV, I delivered global projects and event activations at Viacom, FremantleMedia and the Creative Artists Agency for brands such as MTV, Paramount Pictures and Samsung.
What’s your team responsible for?
We bring ITV to life by creating unforgettable experiences around the world. Our team is responsible for delivering a significant portfolio of industry-leading events that support ITV's strategic objectives. Our day-to-day involves developing event strategies, interrogating briefs, pitching concepts, shaping content and creative direction, negotiating budgets and working collaboratively with our colleagues and stakeholders across ITV and the wider broadcast industry.
What’s the most important part of your job?
It’s hugely important to stay on top of industry trends so I can bring new ideas to the team to continually evolve our work and make sure we remain competitive in what is - quite often - a saturated market. Evolution is one of our key team objectives this year. How do we make each project or event bigger, better, fresher and more impactful than the last? The opportunity to be industry disruptors is really exciting! Keep your eyes peeled for this year’s advertising upfronts - the ITV Gala. It’s going to be epic!
What do you love about your job?
I love that we’re not afraid to take risks and, as a result, we’ve delivered some game-changing projects including the inaugural ITV Gala at The London Palladium, transforming our brand presence at the MIP markets by launching ITV Studios House, as well as being an integral part of the multiple-award winning I Am Team GB. I’m incredibly lucky to have experienced some real ‘pinch me’ moments here at ITV.
How does your work link into ITV’s strategy?
We turn viewers and commercial partners into fans. With so much choice - more so than ever before - it’s our job to make sure people choose us over and above our competitors by creating ITV experiences that transcend beyond the TV screen. Each event strategy includes specific objectives that ultimately help to increase audience and revenue share for ITV as well as bolster our international content and global pay and distribution business.
And finally, what advice would you give to someone who wants to do what you do?
Don’t be fooled by appearances - people assume that working in events is glamorous. The truth is, our work involves more hard hats and hi-vis jackets than glitz and glamour. As a team, we’re all about rolling up our sleeves and mucking in. We’ll do just about anything - well, almost anything - to get the job done on time and within budget!

Natalie was promoted from a Project Coordinator to a Project Manager role in 2017 so we caught up with her to find out what it takes to work in ITV Experiences...
What’s it like to work in ITV Experiences?
We deliver high-profile, industry-defining live experiences and campaigns on behalf of various ITV stakeholders across the whole business, so it’s very collaborative.
I specifically sit within the ITV Studios Global Entertainment hub mainly project managing brand presence at large scale global markets; MIPTV, MIPCOM, Las Vegas Licensing Expo and Brand Licensing Europe and as a team we're also involved in executing a wide-range of cross-sector events and activations, from targeted marketing experiences to large scale multi-channel brand events.
I first entered the events world by freelancing for various companies across different industries whilst I was at University, and I built on the connections I made along the way. Now, I find myself having had over four years exposure to some totally exciting creative, experiential and communications projects, and have delivered some very powerful campaigns, live activations and integrated marketing strategies for ITV. The great thing about what we do is the continual exposure to many different cultures, places and some really incredible people.
My passion lies in creating unforgettable guest experiences that push boundaries, so I love shaping content and getting involved with the creative process. I also love being on the ground working collaboratively to bring an experience to life for the audience and then enjoying the impact felt afterwards.
What’s a typical day like?
A typical day for me includes acting as a point of contact for stakeholders, suppliers and teams to drive solutions, manage budgets, preempt and eliminate potential risks, influence decisions and keep project timelines on track. I often work alongside our marketing colleagues to plan, drive and steer existing and new projects from concept through to execution.
Many of the experiences I’m involved with take place internationally so it’s important to have a 360 degree understanding of the international event cycle from business objectives, production and operations, to audience engagement. And with time differences and language barriers to contend with, you can imagine this makes for a very bustling and exciting day!
My role is often unpredictable and it’s almost impossible to anticipate what one day will entail, however it will undoubtedly involve problem solving, diving into the nitty gritty, attending planning meetings, enjoying countless moments of creativity and collaboration, and experiencing some laugh-out-loud moments with the rest of the team.
Want to work in Live Experiences or Events? Here’s some advice..
If you have a self-starter attitude and a willingness to roll your sleeves up and get stuck in, then it’s for you. Our role may look glamorous from the outside, but in reality we’re the first and last people at every event, which can often mean weekends spent travelling, hours of testing content and organising suppliers, and a huge amount of pre-planning and paperwork.
That said, I would encourage anyone who would like to experience a taste of this wonderful world to just simply have a go - the best way to see if it’s for you is to get involved and try it out for yourself. If you are interested in gaining some onsite experience don’t hesitate to get in touch as we’re always looking for enthusiastic bodies to come and help out.
