Now a programme can go into production. A lot goes into the making of a show, from casting to wardrobe, from location scouting to lighting design, from filming to post production. We'll meet some of the people that make this all happen.
Jane Smith - Production Executive
My role in the making of a new programme is to budget it. So essentially, a producer or a development team has an idea and they put together a treatment for that idea, they then discuss that with the commissioning editors, when the commissioning editors say yes that sounds lovely but how much is it going to cost?', that's generally when I get involved. So I will be involved really right from the beginning of programme making.
Laura Mitchell - Production Runner
A runner's job is to help the production team in the smooth running of a production, so my job will involve different tasks depending on the production - it can be editorial research, collecting packages, making security tags, a lot of basic tasks but they're all really vital to making sure a production runs smoothly.
Laura Hatton - Senior Producer
I'd say my role within the making of the programme, within Day Break, because I make short films that go within Day Break, I have to start with a brief, so it's everything form why are we doing the item, who's going to present it, what the content is going to be. Then when I've got all that together, what the films are going to be, go to the editor, check he's happy with it and then actually go out and film it. So put the scripts together, go out and film the films, come back, edit it them together and then they end up on TV. That is on a weekly basis really, kind of looking at new ideas, keeping it fresh, keeping it relevant for our viewer.
