Work experience and mentoring opportunities

Home > Business Areas > ITV Studios > ITV Studios UK > How productions ‘crew up’ > Work experience and mentoring opportunities

Our work experience and mentoring opportunities are a great way to get a feel for what it’s really like to work in TV production. And they can help you make your mind up when it comes to what roles might suit you best, too.

Work experience

Most areas of our business offer work experience opportunities, and these can be a great way to get a feel for what it’s like to work here. You’ll gain ‘real-life’, practical experience of our production environment, and you’ll have access to lots of people working within it.

You need to be over 18. Placements are open to everyone and ideally done as part of a relevant college course. They shouldn’t be longer than two weeks.

Work experience during COVID19

Unfortunately, we’re unable to offer on site placements during COVID19. However, ITVS Entertainment are currently piloting a 'virtual work experience scheme’ which offers a brilliant opportunity to gain access to people in production that can share their experiences.

To find out more about this, and to be one of the first to know when our on site opportunities will open again, keep an eye on our talent team social media channels: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram on @itvlovestalent.

You can also hear from some of previous work experience colleagues here.

Mentoring

We’re also actively involved in lots of pan industry schemes focused on mentoring young people who want to break into, or progress within, the TV Industry.  Here’s just a few of the organisations we work with:

ScreenSkills - ScreenSkills works with mentees, mentors and partner organisations to support mentoring in the screen industries across the UK, with a focus on reaching mentees from under-represented groups and tackling skills gaps. You can find out more and apply here

The Iconic Steps Industry Mentoring Programme - This programme connects alumni with professionals from the media industry and focuses on supporting young people in their early careers. It offers a 9-month programme, with one-hour meetings per month, bespoke matches, regular check-ins and lots of support. To find out more, just email academy@iconicsteps.co.uk.

Rise - Rise aims to open up more opportunities for women in engineering and technology by holding regular networking events and seminars, an annual mentoring programme, as well as celebrating the skills and achievements with their Rise Awards.

For more information on their mentoring scheme, please mail: risementoringprogramme@gmail.com or head to risewib.com.

Creative Access - Creative Access supports individuals from under-represented communities across the UK to enter and progress within the creative industries. They are always looking for individuals to mentor and support emerging talent as they progress in their careers; to give them confidence, help them set goals and extend their networks.

Anyone interested in signing up as a mentor, please complete the link in this form. In terms of a time commitment, it's about 1 hour a month for six months and you will receive training on how to mentor and guidance throughout the partnership. For more information please email laura@creativeaccess.org.uk.
