Two minutes with...

Meet Théoni Fernando

Two Minutes With... is a new regular series of blogs introducing some of the amazing people who work at ITV. Find out what they do, why they do it - and how they got here.

Théoni Ferrando joined us in March as ITV Studios Global Partnerships’ new Digital Distribution Trainee, following the successful completion of her MAMA Youth Project training programme. In its second year, this collaboration between ITV and MAMA Youth, a project set up ten years ago to train young people from under-represented backgrounds to succeed in the media industry.

What do you do in your role?

As a Digital Distribution Trainee I work on curating and editing digital content for platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, as well as being closely involved on the strategic planning and scheduling of FAST (free ad-supported tv channels) and AVOD (advertising video on demand).

What made you apply for the Digital Distribution trainee role?

One of the big factors that attracted me to this role is the versatility the role entails. I was drawn to the ability to get involved in working with various different partners, and dive into not only the creative side but also the analytical side of the job.

I previously worked in marketing and social media and having a strong interest working in media so this role was a great combination allowing me to use my current skills and my passion for television. It definitely came at a perfect time. Overall, this role has so far given me plenty of opportunities to further my knowledge in television, meet diverse individuals and progress my career.

What do you enjoy about the role?

I’ve enjoyed learning about ITV’s structure, the different departments and roles involved to make great television. It’s been exciting to delve into my role. One part of my job entails working with FAST/AVOD platforms. It’s been intriguing being at the forefront of scheduling and publishing ITV shows for global FAST/AVOD platforms and being invited to media conferences to understand more about the FAST space evolving. The second part of my job involves curating digital content from existing ITV shows across YouTube and social media and generating monetisation from this.

Additionally, I’ve been given the opportunity to work closely with the Daytime team, which involved creating YouTube content for channels such as Good Morning BritainLorraineLoose Women and the opportunity to visit the Daytime studios where the filming takes place. Besides my role, I’ve joined ITV’s socials and events which has been a good opportunity to meet different individuals across the business.

What are you looking forward to during your traineeship?

I’m looking forward to meeting diverse individuals, networking, building my skills and curating content in a new and creative way to grow the business, and as a result increase revenue from our diverse catalogue of shows.

I’m eager to carry on working on evolving our ITV Studios YouTube channels for shows such as Come Dine With Me and Good Morning Britain. Having a Masters degree in Psychology, I’m intrigued to combine my knowledge in human behaviour to understand data patterns.

Additionally, I’m excited to continue to lead and be given responsibility with projects I work on. With the FAST/AVOD industry consistently evolving I look forward to being part of the initial conversations into finding ways to elevate ITV’s content for our audiences across EMEA.
